Tumbleweed Nutrition and Bidii Baby Foods developed these four (4) consumer-based recipes with an understanding that eating more nourishing and traditional foods cannot be achieved without strengthening the skills of families. Our goal was to highlight traditional foods while making them easy to create at home. This includes the use of traditional foods in approachable and realistic recipes. We recognize the health of our communities must start with the health of our families.
We highlighted whole grains such as blue corn, neeshjizhii (Navajo Steam corn) and oatmeal as a great energy source to help keep us fueled during the day. We incorporated traditional proteins such as lamb to serve as the building blocks of our muscles and provide satiety. And, we included colorful fruits and vegetables in different forms to give us a boost of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
